Billy Bob Bass was Hitting Good Tonight

So it was a good evening tonight. Hit the reservoir with the little bridge again tonight. Started off using a fly Turkey had tied for me. It was a chartreuse and pink clouser minnow and worked great. First cast fish on. It was one of my largest and fought really good. Fishing then slowed down quite a bit for me, but Turkey was able to keep catching a few small ones down the bank from me along the rock wall. I ended up moving down the embankment to a shotty dock along the water. While there I hooked into another good size one which made an instant run for the Lily's. After losing quite a few in the Lily's yesterday I quickly got my rod in a position to not allow him to snag the hook into the Lily's. I eventually got him to the waters edge where Turkey was and had him lip him for me. At this point I was using a home brewed fly that I tied. A short bit later caught another one, not nearly as big, but still a good little fighter. Pretty good night for us tonight. Tonight's total was 1 dink and 3 decent sized. All large mouth bass. Will post pictures when I get them from Turkey.

First fish of the day on the first cast.

A decent fish caught from a dock I thought was going to collapse under my feet when I was pulling him in.

Slow Day Fishing

Fishing Report
When to the so called "large" reservoir with the bridge. Turkey was on fire tonight catching fish constantly to include a beautiful fish. Caught one right away and then another about 1 1/2 hours later. Total catch for me tonight was 2 dinks. Think turkey had more than 20. Need to try a different fly tomorrow. A positive note, we had a special guest come visit us at the squadron lounge "hootch".

Turkey with his Big Boy. He was happy to catch this one and keep him on the line. Usually these big ones find their way to the Lillys. This one even took drag and started to run. It was a great fight.

Mario came and visited us. Turkey had to get his picture taken. Haven't seen someone who seemed to occupy so much of my time when I was younger. Thanks Mario for stopping by. GO FIND LUIGI!!!

A Good Day of Bass Fishing

We hit another reservoir tonight. Got a fishing report from some guys here on base that they had caught around 60 fish between the three of them (possible fish story) so we decided to check it out tonight. This location was about an extra 5 minute ride away from base. We got to the spot and it seemed OK, not as much open water as we would like but we figured we would give it a shot.

We ended up doing some fishing off the dock, and also some off to the left. We found the water to have lots of foliage throughout even when it looked like there was none. We did find this to be helpful in getting the fish. I was throwing the same fly as yesterday since it seemed to work well. Sure enough it did. I caught 7 large mouth bass tonight and my buddy Turkey caught 12. The weather was around 70 degrees. It had cooled off today compared to most days and we had cloudy skys. We were getting a pretty good wind too most the evening which was making the fly presentation a pain since it was hard to aim tonight.

This is my little one. This is what most of my fish looked like tonight. Not a big guy, but they sure do put up a good fight.

This was my best tonight. He weighed in probably close to a pound. I actually had 2 others on about this size, but they make a good run for the weeds and get you tangled up so they can get off the fly. I think they know what they are doing. Oh well, they still put up a good fight while they were on. Gonna head out again tomorrow evening; the spot TBD.

This picture is mainly to reference the size.

Fly fishing in Korea

So I have basically sucked at posting anything to my blog so I'm going to try changing that. I wanted to do this blog to post pictures about things that I do around here, but until Kristi got here I really never did get out and do much mainly because of the monsoon season and I didn't know anyone who fly fished. Problem has been solved and we've been hitting a reservoir that's only a couple miles from my dorm so it's easy to get to by bike. We've hit it now a couple of times and the fishing seems to be really awesome while I'm not there and dead when I am. We are primarily fishing for large mouth bass here in Korea since that is what we have near by. The reservoir has lots of pads along the edge, but there are places where we have open water 5-15 feet out. Never really have bass fly fished before, mainly stream fished for trout so this has been a new challenge. My first time out last weekend I caught 5 dinks and one of which was a shad. The next evening we hit a new location on the back side of the reservoir. It was doing alright for the other guy, but for me only 1 dink which got off before I got a hold of it. Tonight was a different story though. After losing my last leader due to the knot giving out (first time that has happened) and losing another tippet leader (which I used a quick knot for) I finally landed 2 good size bass, well they at least fought pretty good. They were both around 7 inches, 1 of which I was able to lip, the other however spit the hook out as I reached for him. I didn't really care much though, I was just happy I finally caught a couple of fighters.

This is looking to the right at the reservoir. Lots of Lily's, and a little bit of water. The bass come from under the lily's though and strike.

Simply looking the other direction.

Me finally lipped a decent fighter large mouth bass.

The tool that made it all happen. Don't know what you want to call it, but I call it "It works" not really though. It is a size 8 hook though. Threw a size 2 for a little bit and that seemed to be too big for what they wanted. Every time I threw this I had a bite; too bad I didn't try it earlier in the evening.

Pictures Finally

Ok so it's been awhile and I'm back from Japan now. It was alright, but had to work long hours. After 2 weeks I was ready to come back to Korea. I wouldn't mind be stationed there, but for now Idaho will have to do. Enjoy the pictures.

This is a picture of a coral island with jungle on top.

This is the A.F. marina at Kadena A.B.

This is just a picture of the dense jungle that can be found on base right in housing's backyard.

This is a plaque to describe the next picture

This is the tomb from the plaque

This is a picture of a flower with a snail and a fly

This is a picture of fish in the water. Looks like an aquarium.

Another fish picture. Wish I had time to snorkel and dive here.

This is a picture of a dorm with jungle across the street.

This is a picture of a flower I thought was cool

This is a picture of the highway. Next to the stoplight is a young girl selling ice cream. It was raining this day so not a lot of buisness

This is a used car lot with cars parked along tombs

This is another picture of the island from the first picture in this blog

This is me golfing. I golfed a 46 over par.

Here is a bat on base. This was a huge bat. Watch your small children and and small pets. These bats might eat them whole.

Greetings to all from Japan

I am sorry for not posting in a long time. Work has been hectic and with the rainy season on us, haven't done anything worth posting about. I did get notice about a month ago though I was going to Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. We are way down here in the tropics. I will be here for a few weeks and then will return back to my temporary home at Kunsan AB, Korea (ROK). Today I was bored and went for a little stroll. Not sure how long of a stroll it was, but I think 4 miles there and 4 miles back. Decided to head to the beach and check out the AF marina. I took some pics along the way to share with everyone to show you how green it is here. It is different here in a very nice way. Enjoy some of these pics. I am however though, not in any of these pics. No one with me to take a pic. Well bad news, the internet sucks here so much that I can't even post pics. Hopefully I can make it somewhere where there is decent internet so I can get the pics posted. Sorry everyone.

Weapons Jersey

So here in Korea, it is common for all work areas to have some sort of Jersey to represent who they are. Kind of like gang colors to represent a gang, we have Jersey to recognize who our guys are. This evening I went out with one of the guys I supervise (my 3 man) to go get our Jerseys and to get some down right good food. We went to a bulgogi house again, but this time a different one than the other day. The food we got was the chicken bulgogi which I think is so much better than beef. I also decided to order some Yaki mandu. Unlike places back home, this lady brought us more yaki mandu when we ran out just because she was nice. They always give us more rice and today she brought out something with cucumbers just for us to try. It was different, but not bad at all. When we were leaving, the lady was nice too. She said, "here water, very hot, drink water." The ladies who run these food places do it all. She cooks, cleans, dishes, waits, everything. It's not like places back home though. Here there are like 3 or 4 tables in these restaurants. Very nice in deed. Perhaps I'll take a picture of one of these places next time.

So we picked up our Jerseys. We design them and the guy will make ANY patch for us. He does custom work and it is very cheap. All I do is print off a design and we will make it for us. We design the Jersey ourselves to represent who we are. Here are some pics of mine.
